THE CHALLENGE
My clients reached out to me to decorate their newly covered cement slab. Together we envisioned a modern family friendly outdoor living space that would be an extension of their interior.
THE SOLUTION
The first thing I did was to create two zones - one for TV viewing and the other for meals. The walls of this home are a dusty rose and that could not be ignored. I balanced such a feminine wall color with weathered grey furniture and upholstery pieces, the end result looks very intentional.
DESIGNER TIP
Creating cohesion: dusty rose stucco is fairly typical in southern California. Even though my clients plan to eventually change the stucco color, I couldn't just pretend they didn't exist. I added it back into the design in small doses such as the pillows, plaid throw blanket as well as the fresh flowers and greenery that I brought into the space.
THE FINISHED PROJECT
Modern, casual, outdoor living is how I would describe this space now. I just know that this young family will enjoy relaxing and entertaining in this space for years to come!
