I just returned from KBIS, the premier Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, and what a fun and inspiring experience it was!
First of all, thank you to the NKBA for inviting me to be a speaker this years event and for the lovely accommodations at the Encore Hotel! They were truly luxurious!
I traveled to the show with my Velvet Couch Sister, Treci Smith, and we were totally enamored with our home for the week—a stunning suite situated on the 18th floor, with breathtaking views of the Las Vegas Strip and The Sphere. The suite boasted a fantastic little lounge area, complete with a swanky bar and a spacious closet—perfect for our needs and a large bathroom. The lobby bar was the best, we were spotted there every evening drinking our nightcaps, so much so that they called us "The Mayors"! Oh, and did I mention how delicious the espresso martinis were?
DAY 1 - KBIS RECAP:
The Tesla Loop:
Our first day started with a Tesla Loop ride from the West hall to the North hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center—a very stylish mode of transportation that epitomizes the innovative spirit of the LVCC and a must if you want to save some steps!
Exploring the KBIS Show Floor, Unveiling Impressions and Insights:
Immediately upon entering the show floor, I noticed ALL of the vibrant colors and artistic installations. This really set the tone for KBIS 2024, it was definitely a colorful show and I'm here for it! I have filled the photo gallery up with some of my favorites. Are you ready?
The Best in Show at KBIS, According to Rachel Moriarty:
The standout exhibit for me was a captivating collaboration between Cafe Appliances and fellow Maximalist, Isabel Ladd, which unequivocally earned my vote for Best in Show. Isabel Ladd's visionary creation unveiled the most incredible maximalist kitchen, a symphony of vibrant colors, and an explosion of printed wallpaper and fabrics that delighted the senses. Her bold use of patterns and textures transformed the space into a kaleidoscope of design, demonstrating the boundless possibilities of maximalism in contemporary interiors. It was a testament to the power of daring creativity and the ability to redefine conventional notions of style and beauty in the realm of interior design.
The color continued. I loved experiencing Monograms' space which was transformed into an art gallery with collaborations with artists who utilized their appliances as canvases. The result? Functional art! This innovative approach not only showcased the versatility of Monograms' appliances but also highlighted the intersection of design and artistry in the modern home. The fusion of art, fashion, and color intoxicated this Maximalist!
The New American Home Tour
I was thrilled to receive an invitation to attend an event at The New American Home by one of its sponsors, Signature Kitchen Suite, a modern luxury brand that I frequently incorporate into my design projects. The New American Home, is a remarkable $10 million masterpiece spotlighting cutting-edge building technology and design innovation. Tucked away in the scenic hills of Henderson, this sprawling 7700-square-foot oasis was a beacon of modern luxury. My personal highlight was the primary bedroom, where expansive sliding doors opened up completely creating a seamless harmony between nature and architecture. The exterior with it's incredible view of the Las Vegas skyline left an indelible impression.

DAY 2 - KBIS RECAP:
Rise & Shine:
My friend and colleague Sharon Sherman of Thyme and Place Designs and I co-presented a 2-hour Voices For The Industry workshop titled "Tile With Style: Bridging the Gap Between Quiet Luxury and Bold Maximalism", where we delved into the fusion of understated luxury and daring maximalism in tile design.
The attendees actively participated in hands-on exercises, crafting physical mood boards that showcased their individual design sensibilities. We were happy to have such a great turnout especially since our presentation started at 8am in the morning after all of the evening festivities that Las Vegas has to offer! We had a blast presenting on the topic and received great feedback!
Continuing Education Sessions:
Following our presentation, I attended two additional training sessions: one on Design Processes by John McClain and another on Biophilic Design, led by Elle Millard. Engaging in continuing education sessions like these is an integral aspect of attending KBIS. Beyond the glamour and excitement of the event, KBIS & NKBA offered invaluable opportunities for professional development—a clear testament to the industry's dedication to fostering growth and innovation.
The evening drew to a close with a fun dinner with some of my favorite colleagues at Water Grill in Caesars Palace.
Then we danced off our decadent dinner at the wrap party known as "The BASH" held at Club XS back at the Encore Hotel. It's such a fun night dancing the night away and celebrating the end of this years KBIS event in true style.
After experiencing the whirlwind of inspiration and knowledge shared at KBIS, I return to San Diego with a renewed sense of purpose, inspiration, and a treasure trove of insights to infuse into my business. As a dedicated professional in the interior design industry, I remain committed to traveling to uncover trends, nurturing my creativity, and crafting spaces that ignite inspiration and joy.
